Téo Becher hercynienne Edition 25
Hercynian refers to a large primary forest that covered much of Europe during antiquity. Its exact location remains unclear, although Caesar mentions it during the conquest of Gaul.
In contrast, the Sonian Forest does not fit with the immemorial representation of an untouched natural space of a primary forest. Over the centuries, it has faced all kinds of activities and assaults specific to this land of confluence that is Belgium. Nevertheless, its history is ancient and complex, intrinsically linked to cohabitation with humans. It is this hybrid characteristic, between the manufactured and natural space, that interested me. A sort of feral forest that reinvents its own form of wildness, an in-between between the geometric human world and the entropic natural.
